Anyways, we decided to compile a list of BC’s top hiking destinations. As great as these places may be, they get even better when you throw some shrooms into the mix.

Without further delay, here’s the list.

  • High on shrooms? Here’s what to do in Kootenay BC
  • Got some mushies? Here’s where to hike in Bliss Landing
  • Got magic mushrooms? Here’s  where to hike in Victoria
  • High on shrooms? Check out Yoho National Park near Calgary
  • Got shrooms? Hike Heiko’s Trail in Fernie BC
  • Feeling psychedelic? Try Rainbow Range hike in Stuie BC

HIGH ON SHROOMS? HERE’S WHAT TO DO IN KOOTENAY BC

The Kootenays are a Southeastern BC region named after the Kootenay river that runs through it. Besides the river, Kootenay is also home to some splendid hikes.

One such hike is the 6-kilometre hike to reach Valhalla Park’s Gwillm Lakes. This hike may be short, but it’s also pretty dang steep, clocking in at 680+ metres of elevation gain. Be sure to take a breather on the trail’s easier sections — the views are beautiful up there.

Once you reach the summit, your options are open. You can partake of some shrooms and spend the night on one of the area’s camping-friendly tent platforms, or continue up to the Upper Gwillm Lakes.

“Hikers take note: the nearest towns to this hike are Nelson and Castlegar…otherwise the area is pretty remote. So plan ahead and get packing!

GOT MUSHIES? HERE’S WHERE TO HIKE IN BLISS LANDING, BC

British Columbia’s Sunshine Coast Trail spans more than 180 km from Sarah Point to Saltery Bay. Really zealous hikers may want to hike the whole trail in one go (or one long, winding backpacking trip), but for the rest of us, hiking a section or two should be sufficient. Hikers can feel free to stay in free trailside huts along the way.

If you’re looking to only hike a few sections, be sure to check out Tin Hat Mountain; if you’ve got a couple of days, the hike from Branch 41 to Saltery Bay is at the top of our list. This particular part o the trail features incredible views of larger-than-life trees and beautiful mountain ranges. As if that weren’t enough, the West coast fog adds in a moody element that’s sure to get you thinking.

GOT MAGIC MUSHROOMS? HERE’S WHERE TO HIKE IN VICTORIA

Do you find yourself in or near Vancouver Island, BC? Then be sure to check out the famed Juan de Fuca Trail, a four-day hike that features beautiful beaches and plenty of coastline. If you’re not up to hiking the whole thing, don’t fret — there are several access points that allow one to jump in and jump out at their leisure. The Mystic Beach section is only 2km, and it’s said to be perfect for families.

But…if you’ve got four days to burn…definitely man up (or woman up) and hike the whole 48 kilometers of trail. A shuttle can take you right to the trailhead, making this one of BC’s most convenient thru-hikes. Just be sure to visit in the Spring of Fall, as parts of this trail get a little bit popular during the warmer summer months.

HIGH ON SHROOMS? CHECK OUT YOHO NATIONAL PARK NEAR CALGARY

British Columbia’s Yoho National Park is another must-visit if you’re inclined to get back in touch with your natural side.

The park’s Iceline Trail is one of BC’s very best. It features all sorts of all-natural goodies, including:

  • A trio of peaks: Vice President, Whaleback, and Isolated Peak
  • Pristine views of Takakkaw Falls
  • A Yoho Valley panorama
  • Emerald Glacier
  • Numerous glacial streams

Hikers can choose from several routes, ranging from the 12 kilometre ‘easy’ route to the full 21 kilometre route that features nearly 700 metres of elevation gain. Be sure to block off a good chunk of your day or this one…and if you plan on tripping, bring a friend along!

GOT SHROOMS? HIKE HEIKO’S TRAIL IN FERNIE BC

If you’re in Fernie BC and hankering for a truly hard hike, look no further than Heiko’s Trail.

This 22-kilometre trail carries adventurous hikers over three mountain passes — suffice to say it’s not for the faint of heart!

Most people take 8-12+ hours to traverse the trail. At its end you’ll find an enormous cave, waterfalls, and an incredible mountain panorama. Just be sure to start out early in the day and bring a fit friend along. Also bring a tent, as you’ll likely need to stay overnight once you get to the top.

FEELING PSYCHEDELIC? TRY RAINBOW RANGE HIKE IN STUIE BC

BC’s Rainbow Range hike is said to be one of the best hikes in the entire province. It’s located way out in Tweedsmuir Provincial Park, far from big cities or any other semblances of civilization. It’s also a day hike that you can knock out in 5 or 6 hours before turning back.

At only 8 kilometres and 300 metres of elevation change each way, this hike is somewhat less strenuous than some of the others on our list — but it’s no less rewarding. Though you could probably go there and back (16 kilometres and 600 metres climbing) in a single day, camp for the night if you can! The views are just too good to pass up…the landscape too good to explore. Expect to see all sorts of wildflowers, rainbow-coloured rolling hills, and breathtaking alpine lakes.

Hikers beware: this area is said to have a high black bear and grizzly bear population. Bring your bear spray and a close friend or two along. You might also encounter coyotes, wolves, and moose.

SUMMING THINGS UP

Well, there you have it! As great as these hikes may be, they’re just the start. The truth is that British Columbia is simply teeming with incredible hikes and equally-incredible scenery,  many of which we didn’t have space to mention here.

If getting back in touch with your natural side is what you crave, try out a few of these hikes for yourself — and be sure to some fresh or dried shrooms along
